Damage To Brewery

GISBORNE, January 24.
A sentence of four months’ gaol was imposed on John Nelson Holloway, alias Stewart John Hastie, by Mr L. N. Ritchie, S.M., today. Holloway, aged 26, a sizeman, appeared for sentence on a charge of wilful damage amounting to £3500 to a brewery building and brewing vat and with breaking and entering the explosive magazine of H. A. Ormond, Ltd., on December 27 and 16, 1964, respectively. For Holloway, Mr W. C. Kohn said it was a most unusual case calling for special treatment. The accused was obviously suffering from a psychotic illness and was not fully responsible for his actions.
In addition to the prison sentence, Holloway was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay restitution totalling £lO7 16s lOd.
