Fire Damages House

Fire slightly damaged a house at Chartens Bay yesterday afternoon. The fire started in a hedge, spread across grass, and damaged the house and a garage nearby. The property belongs to Mr M. H. Baker.

Minor damage was done to the clubrooms of the Canterbury Pigeon Flying Club at 47 Sandyford street when a fire broke out in a wall shortly before 8.31 a.m. yesterday. One machine from Sydenham and one from Headquarters answered the call.

No damage was caused to a portable rubbish-disposal unit belonging to Scott’s Engineering Company, Ltd., when a fire broke out in the unit yesterday morning. The unit was being carried on the back of a truck. One machine from Sockbum answered the call to Annex road at 11.27 a.m.

Fire in a wall of a house at 141 Woodham road, occupied by Mr M. D. Drake, caused only minor damage. Two machines from Headquarters answered the call, which was received at 8.8 p.m. The brigade during the day attended minor grass fires in Fitzgerald avenue, in Marine parade near Halsey street, and on the roadside at Norwich quay, Lyttelton.
