MURDER CHARGE

Waimate Farmer (N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU, Jan. 23. John Alexander Ramsay, aged 23, married, with two children, a farmer, of Elephant Hill, Waimate, was charged with murdering Gillian Margaret Thompson, aged 17, near Waimate, on January 1, 1967, when he appeared at a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court,, Timaru, this morning, before Messrs J. W. Drennan and R. Cole, Justices of the Peace. On the application of Detective P. R. Callanan, and by consent, Ramsay was remanded to appear before the Court at Christchurch on February 6. Ramsay was not represented by counsel, and no plea was taken. Handcuffed to Constable J. H. Poland, the accused was in the dock for 40 seconds.
