Had Enough Thrills

(N.Z. Press Association) TAURANGA, Jan. 22. The lone canoeist, Mr W. L. Rollett previously stranded In Elephant Bay, near Mayor Island, for nine days was taken off the island today soon after 10 a.m. He had been unable to leave the island before today as a heavy easterly swell precluded launching his 12-foot canoe. He arrived in Tauranga with his canoe and gear early tonight on board the Tauranga launch Reremona, skippered by Mr R.

H. Mathewson, of Mount Maunganui. The dairy farmer-pros-pector - mariner boarded the Reremona this morning in Elephant Bay at the invitation of a Marine Department official, Mr K. Fraser.

Feeling fit and in good spirits on his arrival in Tauranga, Mr Rollett said he planned to repair his craft and then leave for Whakatane possibly tomorrow or Tuesday. He does not plan any more open-sea voyages. “I’ve had enough thrills for a while,” he said.
