34½p.c. Goes To Commission

(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, Jan: 23. Compared with the rates at the Auckland sale in January the market at today’s Napier wool sale was firm. If anything prices for second shear were inclined in sellers’ favour and lamb prices tended to be against the seller, says the report of the Hawke’s Bay Woolbrokers’ Association. Competition was from the Continent, Japan, and America, local mills operating on their own particular types. The Wool Commission bought fairly freely on all crossbred description. Total passings were approximately

-38 per cent of which 34 per cent was passed to the commission. The offering numbered 20,401 bales of greasy wool from Taupo, Taihape and all i Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay districts, consisted I mainly of ewe fleece and 'early shorn, with the usual quantity of oddments and a proportion of lambs’ wool. These wools, with the exception of the lambs, were not up to last January’s sales offering, showing considerable water discolouration and cotted fleece caused by adverse weather before shearing. These wools were also showing more tenderness of staple than last season, especially clips from the Taupo and Taihape districts. The following is the official range of prices issued by the Hawke’s Bay Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association and the
