HIGHWAY BLOCKED

Slips Near Milford (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Jan. 23. Slips have cut the Te AnauMilford Sound road on both sides of the Homer tunnel. The scenic highway is covered to a depth of 16ft about 16 miles on the Te Anau side of the tunnel, and again four miles from the tunnel on the Milford side. The slips were brought down during the night by heavy rain. A Ministry of Works spokesman said today heavy equipment was being moved up to clear the road. It is not known when the road will be open to traffic or how many slips, if any, have cut the road between the two known slips.
