BOMBS NEAR HANOI
Rail Targets Attacked (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SAIGON, January 23. American jets battered key rail targets around Hanoi for the seventh successive day, despite a challenge from Soviet-designed MiG fighters, United States headquarters announced today. No planes were reported damaged in yesterday’s two encounters between United States Air Force Thunderchiefs and Phantoms and MiG fighter-interceptors and four MiGl7’s. Waves of carrier-launched Navy bombers pounded the Ninh Binh railway junction for the second day running, but dust and cloud over the target 55 miles south of Hanoi prevented assessment of damage, a United States spokesman said.
