Army Cooks In Hotels
The news that six apprentice chefs in the Army are about to work in Tourist Hotel Corporation kitchens need not alarm the corporation’s guests. By most accounts Army cooks can be very good these days. Should word reach the dining rooms of just how capable these young men are the news might even stimulate recruiting. If some hotel practices are carried into Army messes they will not deceive the troops: potage Saint-Germain will still be pea soup even if it is well made. The innovation should certainly round off the training of the cadets in the catering business. After six years during which the Cabinet portfolios of Defence and Tourism have been in the hands of one Minister this must be the first happy idea born of the marriage. Should it be as successful as everyone in both departments will hope let the new Minister, Mr Thomson, carry the idea no further. Although Army batmen might be able to show some hotel employees a thing or two the idea of secondment to clean Army boots would discourage hotel porters. Hotel guests would rather sign in for a blonde receptionist than sign on for a recruiting sergeant The chef training plan is sufficient It will probably help the corporation and also be a compliment to the cookhouse.
