Christchurch Bowlers Tied With Dallington

Christchurch and Dallington I were tied with 27 pointe in the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s three fours competition after Saturday’s matches. Christchurch held a lead of half a point before the round, but it lost one match to New Brighton when K. R. Smith lost narrowly, 15-17 to R. Bowman. Dallington I, which had 21 points, demolished Woolston W.M.C. by 91 points to 28 and won all six matches. The powerful Dallington team of R. Pirrie, R. Newton and L. McKendry scored every heavily in the individual matches. Papanui, previously second, won the aggregate points against Mona Vale but won only one of the matches and finished with 26 points. Christchurch, the leading club in the Manning Cup, gained aggregate points against Woolston but lost one of its four matches when L. Donnelly lost, 12-18, to Fulham. The second placed team, Hornby, also lost one match in beating Woolston. St. Albans had a decisive wm over Edgeware, gaining aggregate points and losing only one of the six games. Opawa and Sydenham had a grim struggle at the Opawa green before Sydenham gained the aggregate points by 125 to 120 and the matches were tied at three each. K. G. Murray had a good 26-14 win over F. Wise, who performed creditably in the national tournament, and the experienced skips, H. Deavoll and C. Rowe, won their matches.
