Rally Win Confirmed

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) MONTE CARLO, Jan. 22. R. Aaltonen, of Finland, driving a B.M.C. Mini-Cooper, has been officially declared winner of the Monte Carlo rally.

Aaltonen's victory gave the British Mini Coopers their

third Monte Carlo win in four years. His co-driver was H. Liddon, of Britain. O. Andersson (Sweden), driving a Lancia Fulvia, was second, and V. Elford (Britain), in a Porsche, was third. Fourth was L. Celia (Italy) in a Lancia, S. Munari (Italy) in a Lancia was fifth, and P. Hopkirk (Britain) in a MiniCooper, was sixth. A Swedish housewife, Mrs Sylvia Osterberg, and her co-

driver, Ingalill Edenring, also of Sweden, won the coupe des dames. Their Renault Gordini finished 25th in the general classification. The French Renault firm won the Charles Faroux team prize for nominated teams of three, and the Italian Lancias won the “L’Equipe” trophy for the firm with the three best-placed cars of the same make.
