FERRY SINKS OFF KOREAN COAST
(N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) SEOUL, January 15. Sixty passengers of a South Korean ferry boat were reported missing today after the ferry sank in rough icy waters less than a mile from the South Korean coast, having collided with a South Korean warship.
Fifteen bodies have been found, and 12 persons rescued. The ferry, the Hanil-Ho, of
140 tons, was on the way from Yosu to Pusan. The captain, who was among the rescued, said there had been 87 passengers and crew aboard. The collision occurred less than one mile off the South Korean naval base at Chinhai, 20 miles west of Pusan, last night. The other ship involved was the Chungmu, reported to be a destroyer escort which was returning to the Chinhai base from an exercise off the coast.
