Ten Injured In Road Accidents

Four Christchurch persons were injured when the car in which they were travelling struck a pole on the Main South road about one mile and a half north of Pareora late on Friday night. All were admitted to the Timaru Hospital, but two have since been discharged. Hazel Marion Hall, aged 19, of 336 A Gloucester street, the driver of the car, suffered a broken arm, and Helen Jean Smith, aged 17, of 161 Aidwins road, suffered minor facial injuries. The condition of both was described yesterday as satisfactory.

The other passengers, Roger Sharpe, aged 20, of 25 Bamford street, and John Stanley Coffey, aged 18, of 87 Rutherford street, were discharged on Saturday.

Pedestrian Injured.—Mrs Violet Church, of 8 Petrie street, suffered head, arm, and leg injuries when she was struck by a car at the corner of Stanmore road and North Avon road about 7.15 p.m. on Saturday. She was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where her condition yesterday was reported to be fairly satisfactory. Children Hurt.—Two children suffered head injuries when the car in which they were passengers ran into a ditch on the Ellesmere road, near the Halswell turn-off, about 12.10 p,m. on Saturday. Rhodes, aged four, and Brian Wayne Rhodes, aged six, of Lakeside, Southbridge. They were admitted to the Chirstchurch Hospital, where their condition yesterday was described as fairly comfortable. Struck By Car.—Michella Neame, aged two, of 62 Coronation street, suffered leg, head, and internal injuries when she was struck by a car outside her home about 11.40 a.m. on Saturday. She underwent an operation in the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday afternoon. Her condition yesterday was satisfactory.

Leg Injuries.—Robert Perry Bennett, of 5 Clonbern place, suffered leg and head injuries when his motor-scooter and a car collided at the corner of Rattray street and Riccarton road about 7 p.m. yesterday. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, where his condition last night was satisfactory. Head Injuries. Stewart Mace, aged 16, of 29 Tyne street, suffered head and leg injuries when a car and the motor-cycle on which he was travelling as a pillion passenger collided head-on on the Akaroa highway about a mile on the Christchurch side ot Barrys Bay about 5 pan. yesterday. He was still being treated at the Christchurch Hospital casualty department late last night.
