DUNEDIN, January 4.

For work which “shows promise of a glowing future,” Ruth Williams, aged 16, of Morrinsville College, has been awarded first prize in a New Zealand-wide competition for schools initiated by the New Zealand Esperanto Association. Entrants were asked to design a label or poster which would illustrate the ideals of the international language, without use of wording. Results were announced today at the association’s annual congress, now being held in Dunedin.

A symbolic study of linked hands over a globe, the win ning entry showed very great insight and imagination, according to congress members Other prize-winners were: Raymond Andrews, of Hamilton Boys’ High School 2, Richard C. Musson, of Marlborough Boys’ College 3. Highly commended: G. T. Beals, Te Kuiti High School, Patricia Jekyll, St. Mary’s College, Christchurch, G. A. Wilson, Marlborough Boys’ College, G. M. Nixon, Bruce Stenner, Glenn Fuller, R. G Handford, and G. M. Oulton, all of Hamilton Boys’ High School.

Special mention for young entrants: Adele Byers, Graeme Backholm, and Allan Anderson, all of Dunedin.
