Road Report The Automobile Association (Canterbury) yesterday reported that all roads in its territory were open for holiday traffic. Approaches to the Cribb creek bridge, on the inland road to Kaikoura, which were washed out by a cloudburst, were repaired and in use again from 8.30 a.m. yesterday. Good Surf Slightly improved weather yesterday encouraged swimmers to take advantage of the good surf at North Brighton and Taylor’s Mistake. The North Brighton surf was between Bft and 10ft and there was a strong northerly drift. The fairly warm water attracted about 20 bathers. Other beaches did not have many swimmers, although conditions were generally warm and the surf was moderate to high. Trawler Lifted The trawler Ajax was lifted by cranes from the Timaru harbour about 11 a.m. yesterday.—(F.O.O.R.) Sunny Intervals After another cool, cloudy morning, the weather in Christchurch cleared slightly, and the afternoon was partly cloudy, with sunny intervals. A light southerly wind blew. Temperatures at Harewood remained steady, ranging from 50 degrees at 6 a.m. to a maximum of 60 degrees at 3 p.m. At the Botanic Cardens at 3 p.m. the temperature was also 60 degrees. The forecast for the week-end is for partly cloudy weather, with north-easterly winds. Fishing Rivers Rain in the foothills has discoloured many Canterbury rivers, according to a report from the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. The Hurunui, Waiau, Waimakariri, Ashley, Upper Selwyn, Rakaia, Ashburton, and Rangitata rivers were all dirty at 9 a.m. yesterday. Only the lower Selwyn and the Halswell rivers were clear and fishable.
