Long Journey To Dodge Mobile Race Starts
“The Press” Special Service
AUCKLAND. The Tinwald trainer-driver D. J. Townley has received some good-natured ribbing over his decision to race Soldier Gal and Castleton's Gift at the Auckland Trotting Cup meeting instead of staying in the south for the Canterbury Park meeting at Addington. Townley, a strong opponent of the mobile barrier, said yes-
terday that the only reason he brought the horses north was “to dodge those flying starts at Addington.” On the first two nights of the Auckland meeting, there were only four races with mobile starts. Soldier Gal was in two of them and Castleton’s Gift in another. Soldier Gal’s race tonight, the Durham Handicap, also has a mobile start.
