Tsunami Should Win Again At Washdyke

Tsunami, Never Again, and Not Guilty are selected to win minor races on the second day of the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Washdyke today.

Tsunami is top weight in the Publicans’ Handicap with 8-10, but he will go into the race with 8-3, which will include a 71b allowance.

The Publicans’ Handicap is the second leg of the on - course double, the first leg being the Albury Stakes. Tsunami and the two-year-old Never Again won the first day of the meeting, and Not Guilty was a close third in the high-weight after striking trouble about half way through the race. Never Again and Not Guilty are both trained at Riccarton by D. J. Thistoll.

Newcomers from Riccarton stables at the South Canterbury meeting include the half-brothers, Hushaway and Shipmate, and they will be a popular combination for today’s T.A.B. double. Hushaway is top weight in the first leg, the St. Andrews High-weight, and Shipmate is one of the speedsters in the President’s Handicap, six furlongs. Hushaway will probably find the Timaru Cup winner, Golden Thistle, the hardest to beat in the high-weight. Shipmate by no means dominates the President’s Handicap. He will be opposed by Vivien Robe, Quick Flight, Her Pal, and Gay Doctor, the first four in a spectacular finish to the corresponding race on the first day of the meeting.
