WELLINGTON WEATHER
Bad New Year Forecast (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. After being drenched over the Christmas holiday period, Wellington is also in for a wet New Year, according to a Weather Office forecast tonight.
Rain has fallen every day since last Saturday and temperatures have plunged. The Weather Office today forecast scattered showers, strong southerly winds and cold temperatures for tomorrow.
Sunday’s prospects are a little better. Only a slight improvement is expected.
Thousands of Wellingtonians are leaving the city for tourist spots, but many will not escape the poor weather as conditions over most of central New Zealand will be cold, wet and windy. The weather will play havoc with bowls, tennis, cricket and archery tournaments to be held here.
In spite of the weather, the national catamaran championships at Evans Bay will not be cancelled.
