Family Not In Ship

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, Dec. 30. The Bosch family from Montana did not arrive in Auckland today as expected.

Mr and Mrs F. M. Bosch and their nine children, who tried unsuccessfully last month to live here, were to have reached Auckland this morning from Hawaii in the Orsova.

But when the ship berthed, the half-dozen reporters there to meet them were told by a ship official: “They’re not on board.”

The family is believed to haVe cancelled the trip at the last minute, but’the reason is not known.

Last month, the family tried to enter New Zealand after emigrating to Australia in October. Disillusioned by conditions, they had decided to return to the United States. On the way back, some shipboard companions convinced them they should try New Zealand.

This they did, but were told an application for residence could be considered only while they were out of the country, otherwise they could stay three months on a visitor’s permit.

They went to Hawaii and sent a letter of application to the Labour Department.
