Sarapu To Play For N.Z.
The New Zealand chess champion, O. Sarapu (Auckland), will be sent to play in the inter-zone chess champion, sjiips next year. The tournament might be held in Tunis, the annual meeting of the New Zealand Chess Association was told in Christchurch yesterday.
Miss M. McGrath, of Wellington, the winner of the Australian women's championship, may play in the women’s world championship, which will probably be held in Russia next year. The association elected the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) its patron. Other officers elected were: President, Mr A. S. Hollander; vice-president, Mr A. J. Nyman; honorary secre. tary, Mr E. B. Stroud; honorary treasurer, Mr R. W. Smith; council Messrs R. M. Broadbent, J. T. Dixon, A. L. Wilkinson; honorary auditors, Messrs H. R. Best and Abbott
