FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation. —A depression east of the North Island and an anti-cyclone to the south-east of the South Island are moving slowly eastwards. Forecast:

The Kaikoura coast and coastal Marlborough. —Fresh southerly winds; cloudy and cool; occasional showers.

Canterbury.—Light to moderate easterly winds; cloudy and cool.

Inland Marlborough.—Fresh east to northeast winds; cloudy with moderate temperatures. Buller and Westland.—Moderate variable winds; partly cloudy and mild.
