FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An extensive depression lying over the east of the North Island is moving slowly eastwards. An anti-cyclone to the south of the South Island is slowly weakening. Forecast: Kaikoura coast and North Canterbury.— South-east winds, fresh in exposed places, moderate elsewhere; cloudy and cool with a few scattered showers. Central and South Canterbury.—Moderate east or south-east winds; mainly cloudy and cool with some scattered showers about the ranges and hills. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh gusty southeast winds; cloudy and cool. Buller and Westland.—Fresh south-east winds; fine and warm. Outlook. —Fine on the West Coast; cloudy elsewhere.
