Heavy Shower Of Mail For Father Christmas

Father Christmas at the Chief Post Office in Christchurch is dealing with another heavy shower of fan mail from hundreds of small children.

Reporting from “Toyland, North Pole”—his official address when handling correspondence Father Christmas said that more than 400 children had written to him this year. Of these 233 had written last week while still at school. Father Christmas will be unable to answer some of his mail, because the writers thought it unnecessary to let him know their addresses.

One correspondent has written twice informing him what he would like. The second letter advises a list of requirements quite different from the first. Father Christmas said it was clear that television was

influencing children in their choice of toys. Camera guns, “screaming mimis,” and dolls are the most sought. This year’s mail has contained none of the delicate pieces of information relating to family affairs which was liberally given in last year’s letters and caused unbounded mirth in the back rooms of the post office. Father Christmas praised the practice of many children of including zone numbers when giving their addresses. Where possible, he is replying to all mail received.
