THORN ELEC. MOVE

Consolidation Of Interests

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Dec. 21. Thom Electrical Industries, Ltd., Britain’s biggest tele-vision-set maker and large lighting group, is consolidating its Australian and New Zealand interests in a new holding company with a 5m dollars nominal capital. The new company will be called Thom Holdings Pty., Ltd. The main operating subsidiaries will be Thom Electrical Industries (Aust) Pty., Ltd., and Canberra Television Services Pty., Ltd. A spokesman for the company said today that the new move was not connected with the British parent company’s recent 67m dollars bid for Pye of Cambridge, Ltd. The consolidation had been decided on some months ago. Thom is a large maker of fluorescent tubes and incandescent lamps in Australia, and has a television rental business through the Canberra Television Services subsidiary. Chairman of the new company will be Sir Jules Thom and his alternate chairman in Australia will be Mr M. G. Roberts; managing director will be Mr E. K. Coghill. The other Australian directors will be Mr A. J. Davies and Mr W. R. Walker, who head the two main subsidiaries.
