NEW Y.M.C.A. BUILDING

Completion In February

Work on the Young Men’s Christian Association’s new building in Hereford street was “right up to expectations” the general secretary (Mr R. J. O'Kane) said yesterday. The building is expected to be opened in February or early in March. The building will include a gymnasium 90ft by 50ft, accommodation for about 400, three squash courts, a youth centre, a cafeteria, offices, a Japanese bath and sauna room, weight-lifting facilities, and a conference room. The youth centre will include a games room, a rumpus room and a meeting room.

Mr O’Kane said that the building would cost about £92,000 and the additions about £15.000. The Y.M.C.A. had raised about £50,000, and £50,000 had been given by the Government At present there were no special plans for raising the other £7OOO.
