Napier Wool Sale Values Steady

iNcw Zealand Press Association* NAPIER, December 9. Compared with rates ruling at the Christchurch sale on Wednesday, the market at today’s Napier wool sale was quoted as being firm with values unchanged, although prices tended to be slightly erratic towards the end of the sale, according to the official report.

A total of 28,587 bales of greasy wool was offered at auction to a full bench of buyers. This wool was drawn from Hawke’s Bay, Gisborne, East Coast, Taupo and Taihape and consisted mainly of ewe and hogget fleece, together with a considerable proportion of early shorn fleece plus the usual quantity of skirtings. Although a number of wellgrown stylish lots were on offer some of the ewe wools were inclined to be short and some had a break close to the butt of the staple. Wet Weather This fault could be due to the persistent wet weather betwen lambing and shearing. Skirts were also showing considerable water stain and some mud. Competition was fairly general with the Continent outstanding, supported by Japan and the United States on suitable wools, hnd with local mills operating on their speciality types. The Wool Commission gave good support and was particularly active on strong crossbreds and clothing oddments. Price Range The official range of prices
