CALL BY POPE
Armistice In Vietnam (N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) VATICAN CITY, Dec. 9. Pope Paul yesterday called for an armistice and negotiations to follow the Christmas truce in Vietnam. The Pope was speaking at a Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica, marking the feast of the Immaculate Conception and the first anniversary of the closing of the second Vatican Ecumenical Council. Noting that a Christmas truce had already been announced by both parties in the Vietnam conflict, he added: “However, this temporary suspension of hostilities cannot fully satisfy mankind’s expectations, for they foresee, with feelings of increased regret, the resumption of the war after this short and fleeting pause.”
