TROTTING Newport Maid Picked In Waimate Cup

Newport Maid, a most unlucky runner at. Addington Raceway last Saturday, will have a chance of making amends in the Waimate Cup tomorrow.

The Newport Maid four - year - old is a splendid stayer and she will only need to receive average luck in the running to gain an overdue win. Bramlock will probably be the hardest for Newport Maid to beat. He finished solidly at the end of 13 furlongs last Saturday to beat all but Inglebum. If he races as well once again, he should be close up. Meadow Bank shaped like an early winner when he finished third behind Lucrative in the New Zealand Metropolitan Stakes at the cup meeting. This field will not be so difficult and he should be one of the better prospects.

Warily, an impressive if narrow winner at the New Brighton meeting, John, which finished in a place in the Kaikoura Cup, Spanaway, unbeaten in her last three starts, and Money Wise appeal most of the remainder.

Goldmount, Fireaway and the New Zealand Oaks winner, Stylos, form a likely trio in the second leg of this double, the C. D. Wilson Handicap. Option, Proudly and Black Tulip should do best of the remainder. An on-course double will be run on the Publicans’ Handicap and the Dom Keyes Handicap, Coronet Peak and Roydon Frost forming a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
