VIENNESE THEME
Travel Club Party Vienna of song and legend was the theme for guests of the Canterbury New Zealand Travel Club at their Christmas party in the Winter Garden on Wednesday evening. Sir Joseph Ward welcomed the guests. Specially invited guests included the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning, the former Mayor of Christchurch, England (Aiderman J. R. Bell) and Mrs Bell, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P Ashby), the vice-president of the Society of New Zealand Travel Clubs (Mrs B. L Blodom), the vice-president of the South Canterbury Tra vel Club (Mrs A. McDonald) the secretary of the South Canterbury Travel Club (Mr G. A. Plummer), the presi dent of the New Zealand So ciety of Travel Clubs (Mrs D S. Mclnnes), the vice president of the Waimate Tr< vel Club (Mrs W. Fletcher) executive members of th* Waimate Travel Club (Mrs I Hanson and Mrs D. Milligan} and Miss E. Helliwell. Mrs R. B. Andrew compered the programme. Items included an instru mental trio by Mabel Mason (piano), Joyce Bull (violin) and Margery Chapman (’cello), vocal solos by Gilbert Wiberg and a magic interlude by De Larno. A husband and wife team (Kathy and Geoff.) sang and Kathy did a Hawaian Hula; a flute solo by Roger Muckton was accompanied by Wallace Woodley, and St. Mary’s College sextet sang Christmas carols. Incidental music was provided by Miss Nelle Billcliff.
