NASSELLA “SCARE”
Report Proved Incorrect
A nassella tussock “scare” that proved groundless was discussed at yeterday’ meeting of the Canterbury Nassella Tussock Co-ordinating Committee, when Mr B. J. O’Neill, the Mackenzie county representative, asked what had happened to a supposed nassella strike at Balmoral military camp.
“There was a flutter caused by what appeared to be a malicious report,” he said: “I never got the full gist of it, but two inspectors came in.” Mr R. W. MacKenzie, inspector for Ellesmere county, said that two men, who had been in camp at Balmoral, had told him that nassella was being grubbed there. He had referred the report to the MacKenzie county inspector. Results, he heard, were negative.
Mr O’Neill said he should have been told, as he had known nothing at the time.
