NOT PART OF ASIA

N.Z. Entry Declined

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BANGKOK.

The Asian Games executive committee has rejected New Zealand's application to participate in the games.

The committee has ruled that New Zealand was not part of Asia.

The rejection of New Zealand's bid was no surprise, said the chairman of the Olympic and Empire Gaines Association, Mr C. L. S. Cross, in Wellington. He felt that if New Zealand had been accepted, the way would have been open for Australia to join and this could “cause swamping of Asians in some sports.”

New Zealand had no real intention of sending full teams to the games. “We looked at it as perhaps a means of obtaining inter-national-class competition in sports like indoor basketball, hockey, wrestling, weightlifting and cycling,” added Mr Cross.
