LITERARY AWARD
Prominent Playwright

WELLINGTON, December 5. The 1967 £lOOO scholarship in letters, which is made by the State Literary Fund from finance provided by the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, has been awarded to the playwright and author, Isobel Andrews, of Parnell, Auckland.
Mrs Andrews is perhaps best known for her one-act plays, several of which have been published overseas. In New Zealand she has won the award for the best New Zealand play produced in British Drama League festivals on four occasions, and some time ago received first and third places in an N.ZJB.C. playwriting contest Mrs Andrews’s radio plays have been broadcast by the N.Z.8.C., the 8.8. C., and the Australian Broadcasting Commission, and in theatre her published plays have been produced in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and other countries. In addition to her work for theatre and radio she has had many articles, poems, short stories and film and theatre criticisms published, including a collection of short stories entitled '‘Something to Tell.” Mrs Andrews was educated at Wellington Giris’ College and spent most years of her life in Wellington. Before moving north her husband was director of the National Film Unit.
