The senior supervisor of postal branches in Christchurch (Mr H. J. Smith) will retire on Thursday after more than 40 years’ service with the Post Office.

Mr Smith began his career at Gore and stayed in Southland until appointed to his present position in 1962.

He is one of four senior postal officials who are retiring at the end of this year.

The others are the postmaster at the Papanui Post Office (Mr H. V. Patchett), the supervisor of the clerical branch (Mr C. Rae), and the supervisor of zone telephone accounts (Mr G. R. Crossen).
