W PROPOSED UNDERGROUND WATER AREA AND UNDERGROUND WATER AUTHORITY PUBLIC- NOTICE is hereby given that it is the intention of the Christchurch City Council to present a petition to His Excellency the Governor-General praying that an underground water area be constituted over the City of Christchurch and such other contiguous areas as may wish to join with the City in the establishment of an Underground Water Committee. The names of the local authorities which have expressed a wish to join with the Christchurch City Council in the establishment of an Underground Water Committee for the purposes outlined in and in accordance with the Underground Water Act, 1953. are: The Boroughs of Lyttelton and Riccarton and the Counties of Ellesmere, Halswell. Heathcote. Paparua and Waimairi. The boundaries of the proposed area are those formed by the combined constituent local authorities.

It is proposed that the Underground Water Authority for the area shall be an Underground Water Committee specially constituted for the purpose and that membership comprise one member appointed by each of the constituent local authorities, plus one member appointed by the North Canterbury Cachment Board.
