George Running Out Of U.S. Opponents
Obtaining American opponents for T. George is becoming more difficult as the New Zealand feather-weight boxing champion’s record becomes more impressive. In a letter to the Auckland trainer, Mr H. Preston, the former Texan middle-weight, boxer, R. Knight, says that he has spoken to many top feather-weights in the United States with a view to them fighting George in New Zealand but none has expressed any interest in a visit. A. Benitez, the eighth ranked feather-weight in the world, is fighting R. Nides on Monday week and he does not wish to leave the United States. Another Californian feath-er-weight, D. Valdez, is also committed to bouts this month,, as is D. Hawkins, of Los Angeles.
F. Crawford, one of the most promising younger fighters in Los Angeles, has been approached but he has since left for South Africa, where he has several contests arranged. Meanwhile, George will meet an Englishman from Queensland—A. Taylor —in one of three professional bouts In the Auckland Boxing Association’s triple bill on Monday.
