MR CAIN CHOSEN

A prominent Christchurch swimming administrator, Mr D. W. Cain, was chosen by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last evening to manage the national junior team in Australia next month. Mr Cain, who was nominated by the Canterbury and Auckland centres, was selected on the first ballot from six other nominees.

For 20 years Mr Cain has coached and taught swimming at all levels, and was instru mental in the introduction of age group swimming at club and centre level In Canter bury.

Mr Cain represents Auckland on the national council, and formerly was resident delegate for Canterbury and Waikato. He is a former sei ector and vice-president of the Canterbury centre and ha« been president of the Wharenui club for eight years. Mr E. H. Williams was reappointed secretary of the association and the chairman reported that Mrs C. Foxton had been selected from 21 applicants as clerical assistant in the N.Z.A.S.A. office on a part-time basis. The council appointed Mrs D. Fitzsimmons as the association's representative on the New Zealand Surf Life-Saving Association’s council as the successor to Mr B. Devenport. Mrs Fitzsimmons is a former secretary of the Wellington Swimming Centre and was chaperone with the 1962 New Zealand Empire Games team.
