NEW PLUNKET ROOMS

Seven years of fundraising efforts by the Bryndwr sub-branch of the Plunket Society were rewarded yesterday with the opening of the Plunket rooms in Kendal avenue.

The tastefully decorated and well appointed building will be used by the Bryndwr and Bumside branches, formerly accommodated in the St. David’s Methodist Church hall

Bryndwr members raised I more than £lOOO, and received i a grant of £5OO from the Golden Kiwi fund. When it ■ seemed that ends would not [meet they were offered assist'ance by Mr R. G. Mauger. a

city builder. Mr Mauger also helped to establish the North New Brighton Plunket rooms which were opened last year. “It does a tremendous amount for the work of the society to have a friend like Mr Mauger," said Mrs N. M. Peryer, president of the Christchurch branch. “As we are a health organisation it is very important to be in good surroundings. I cannot too highly commend the work done by the committees and the help given by Mr Mauger.”

The modem coloured concrete block building has a large waiting room, which will double as a meeting place for the aub-branch, and a reception and kitchen area. AH ap-

pliances and facilities necessary for Plunket service are provided. Furnishings were provided by the Plunket Mothers’ Club.

Welcoming guests to the opening ceremony, Mrs A. H. Henry, patroness of the Bryndwr branch, said it was wonderful for the members who had worked so hard to get such “lovely rooms” “It has been a great pleasure to work with everyone associated with the Plunket Society,” said Mr Mauger. “Everyone appreciates every little thing done." The picture shows Mr Mauger opening the new rooms, watched by Mrs Hendry (left) and Mrs Peryer (right).
