Youth Council For N.S. W.

CN.Z. Press Association—Copyright)

SYDNEY, December 6.

The New South Wales Cabinet has decided to establish a Youth Advisory Council to advise the Minister for Education, Mr Cutler, on the development of youth services in the State.

Announcing the decision, the Premier, Mr Askin, said the council would be established as soon as possible under an independent chairman who was not affiliated with any youth organisation. Other representatives would be drawn from the Education Department, youth organisations for boys and girls, the National Fitness Council, religious youth organisations, local councils, and associations of youth organisations. Steps would also be taken to establish an autonomous

Association of Youth Organisations of New South Wales to take the place of the existing associated youth committee of the National Fitness Council, and similar organisations.

The Youth Advisory Council would advise Mr Cutler on measures needed to develop a sound structure for youth services generally.

It would also make recommendations on the distribution of Government grants to youth organisations, Mr Askin said.
