Waihemo Dispute
Sir, —As a seaman, I think the sit-in strike on the Waihemo is a laugh, but such action will not bring about a State line. How often have ships been held up days on end for a system that the award did not provide for! One was recently held up at Lyttelton for almost two weeks, and a State line would be subjected to such action more strongly than a private line. Many seamen are leaving the seafaring game as they cannot be told what ship they have to go in. The Union Company could write a good story on these hold-ups. On the Pacific run losses were numerous.—Yours, etc., SEAFARER. December S, 1966.
