Advantages Of Middle Age
„ The advantages of being middle-aged outweighed those of youth, said Professor P. J. Lawrence, professor of education at the University of Canterbury, in an address to the students of Christchurch Teachers’ College yesterday morning.
Genius was the prerogative of youth and the dividing margin was the age of 40. What middle age had was experience, and the ability’ to use it intelligently.
“Francis Bacon wrote of the middle-aged, “they object too much, consult too long, adventure too little,’ ” said Professor Lawrence.
“It is an elastic phase —■ that increasing expanse of middle age.”
