Seminar For Youth
“Do morals matter?” and “Why work?” were two of the questions considered at a oneway seminar for school leavers held on Saturday by the Christchurch Catholic Youth Movement.
Attended by more than 200 young people from secondary schools around Christchurch, the seminar was designed to help bridge the gap between school and the outside world which the young people will soon enter, said the movement’s president (Mr R. Consedine). The programme included short speeches followed by discussion groups and question time. Speakers included Mr G. Bums, editor of the “Christchurch Star,” speaking on “Youth in the Community”: Mr K. Heslin, a lecturer at the Christchurch Technical Institute and president of Medical Aid Abroad, speaking on “Why Work?” and Mr E. S. J. Crutchley, S.M., on “Do Morals Matter?” Also in the programme was a discussion entitled “68 Hours To Lave,” covering leisure time. The seminar was marked by long discussion periods, and lively questioning of the speakers. The chairman for the day was Mr J. Paisley.
A dance was held in the evening for those taking part during the day.
