Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Fruit and vegetables were In good supply and in fair demand at Christchurch produce markets yesterday. Because of heavy supplies, tomatoes were down to between Is and 2s 7d a pound. North Isiland marrows were in good supply and sold well. There were good quantities of cherries from Central Otago. They sold between 19s and 40s a case. Strawberries were in fairly heavy supply selling up to 2s 7d a punnet. Other prices supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association were:—Marrows.—Up to 28s a case. Silver Beet.—ss to 7s 6d a case. Beetroot.—l2s to 15s a dozen bunches. Pumpkins.— Up to UOs a sack. Cabbages.— 8s to 13s a case. Carrots.—6s to 10s a dozen bunches. Cauliflowers.—4s to 10s a case. Onions.—2os to 35s a bag. White Turnips.—los a dozen bunches. Potatoes.—los a sugar bag. Kumeras.—s6s a sugar bag. Spring Onions.—4s to 6s a dozen bunches. Radishes.—3s to 4s a dozen bunches. Parsley.—ls 3d a bunch. Lettuces.—2s to 7s a dozen. Spinach.—7s to 12s a case. Cucumbers.—l6s a half case, 30s to 35s a case. Rhubarb.—l4s 6d a dozen bunches. Asparagus.—Up to 2s lOd a bundle.
