RHODESIAN ECONOMY
Prediction Of Failure (N.Z. Pres* Association) WELLINGTON, December 5. Rhodesia’s economy is gradually running down according to Mr A. Todd, a nephew of the former Rhodesian Premier, Mr Garfield Todd, who arrived in Wellington today in the Northern Star with his family. Mr Todd said that although he and his family had left all their property at Mashaba, Rhodesia, they might not go back if the country split completely with Britain. “If there is a split, I don’t think there would be much future for Rhodesia’s economy,” he said. "It is gradually running down now.” Light industry was moving out northwards, and factories were closing down or reducing staffs. Mr Todd said he felt that Mr Smith had probably given a “fairly substantial concession” on the vote and advancement of Africans to Mr Wilson.
Mr Todd said his uncle was not restricted.
