ROAD AT ILAM
Grant Of £18,500 A grant of £18,500 has been received by the University of Canterbury for site works at Ham—chiefly around the new Students’ Union. The Vice-Chancellor (Professor N. C. Phillips) told the University Council yesterday that primarily the grant was for an access road, car park, footpaths, a footbridge, and lighting, amounting to more than £14,000. The remainder would be used for access to the telephone exchange - computer building and for foundation investigations for the “artslibrary complex.”
This would be the last grant for site development until the council submitted its comprehensive plan for remaining works, Professor Phillips said. It was hoped that recommendations from a committee (with representatives of the Ministry of Works and the university) would be presented to the council at its March meeting.
