Boys’ Brigade Awards Presented
Three members of the 33rd Christchurch company of the
Boys Brigade were presented with their Queen's badges at the annual display and presentation of awards at the Hoon Hay Presbyterian Church. These were the first badges to be won by the company, which was started in 1960.
The Queen’s badge Is the highest award obtainable in the Boys’ Brigade. Corporal M. Bootherstone aged 17 and in the fifth form at the Hillmorton High School is a foundation member of the company. In addition to brigade activities his main interests are stamp and coin collecting and harriers. Corporal M. Morrinson started his Boys' Brigade activities in the sth Dunedin company when he was 12, He transferred to Christchurch in 1964 and has been with the 33rd Christchurch company since. He is in the sixth form at Cashmere High School and has just sat University Entrance. His main interests are tennis, harriers, stamps and expedition training. Also a pupil at Cashmere High School is Corporal R. Bennett. He is in the fifth form and is 16. His interests are tramping, Rugby and softball. The display attended by many parents. included demonstrations of drill, physical training, a band display and several sketches illustrating company activities. The inspecting officer was the captain of the 2nd Christchurch company, Mr D. Giblin. The chaplain was the Rev. I. G. Ryburn. The company captain (Mr S. Dunn) announced that three members of the company were on the honours list for the recent Boys’ Brigade sponsored trek. Private W. Keenan had the highest number of sponsors in the battalion, Private A. Kleyzen had the third highest amount collected and Private J. Argue was sixth.
