SEVEN N.Z. REPS. IN HUTT SOFTBALL SIDE
The defending champion and holder of the Beatty Cup for the last five seasons, Hutt Valley, will have seven New Zealand and two North Island representatives in its team at the national men’s inter-provincial softball championships at Rugby Park, beginning on December 28.
An illustration of the team’s strength is the failure of the national trialist, K. Barrowman, to win selection and his subsequent replacement by D. P. Sorenson, a member of the New Zealand world series team, at first base. The seven tourists are W. F. Massey, T. J. Nunns, Sor-
enson, W. P. Baldwin, R. E. Smith, A. R. Leslie and T. D. Bell. The team will be completed by the North Island representatives, J. Leeney (third base) and R. M. Strong (outfield). Three of the players have been successful at the two Rugby codes. Strong toured Britain and
France in 1965 with the New Zealand Rugby League team; Nunns made his Wellington Rugby League debut at loose forward last season and Smith is a former Wellington Rugby Union representative. The utility players will be T. Cardie (pitcher), the only new tournament player, L. Nation (catcher) and B. McLean (third base).
