Strike Delays Rams For South America

The strike by Qantas pilots has delayed indefinitely the delivery of six stud Corriedale rams to buyers in Peru and Argentina.

The first three rams were to be consigned from Auckland to Mexico City next Monday on the second of three inaugural weekly flights on this route. The balance of the consignment was to go a week later. The transport of the sheep by air from Mexico City to Lima and Buenos Aires had been arranged through Canadian-Pacific Airlines. The stud stock manager in Christchurch for Wright Stephenson and Company, Mr A. L. Smith, said yesterday that the strike had complicated the delivery of the sheep. The buyers had expected them to arrive in December. “We have always had difficulty getting sheep to South America," Mr Smith said. “If this had been used

we would have established an ideal way of making delivery. “We have not been able to make such direct delivery before because United States air schedules have not been satisfactory. The flight to Mexico City will enable us to tie in with carriers to Lima and Buenos Aires.” Mr Smith said that the new route would enable New Zealand to deliver sheep to South America within three days. It would require only one transshipment. Until the strike Is settled, the rams will be held on the properties of the vendors. The first three rams, all from Bushey Park Estate, Palmerston, will go to Peru. The second consignment of three will be from Bushey Park, D. S. Johns, of Culverden, and the Evans Estate,
