Highest Score Of Season

First Day: Sydenham 247/9 dec. St. Albans 51/2. Two splendid partnerships. In which Burtt was associated with S. C. Guillen and then with Ruston, took St. Albans to the season’s highest score In the senior grade. Burtt, unable to find much time for cricket because of examinations until last week, found touch straight away and gave a very attractive and sound display. Once, he should have been stumped, but he gave no other chance in an innings lasting 214 minutes. Burtt has a fine range of strokes and he made them all, crisply and firmly. Guillen, assuming a more passive role, helped him add 73 for the third wicket and then, while Burtt continued to produce runs readily, Ruston took charge. This was one of Ruston’s best displays. He hit very hard, and was all confidence and competence. The bowlers could do nothing with him; the slightest lapse in length was seized upon avidly and the runs flowed from Ruston’s bat sweetly. He hit two sixes and 13 fours and made his 95 in only 113 minutes.

In that period, Ruston and Burtt added 140 and they paved the way for the others to hit out merrily. J. S. Billcliff made 29 in 27 minutes, K. I. Ferries

17 In nine minutes and St. Albans led by 79. There was a time when Sydenham was in danger of col. lapse; four wickets fell for 31 But K. Thomson, very much a form batsman at present, crouched watchfully over his bat and saw his side through. Umpires: Messrs L. C. Johnson and B. Dennison.
