Lancaster Park Leads; Fine Century To Burtt
\\ ith its first-innings victory 7 over Riccarton on Saturday, Lancaster Park became the fourth team, in a competition of six, to lead the senior championship. At the half-way 7 stage in the contest, only 13 points separate the first and last teams.
Pitches on Saturday were placid, and the batsmen responded to them. Three young candidates for the Canterbury . team made the most of the occasion: J. W. Burtt scored a fine century 7 for St. Albans, and for Old Boys C. L. Bull and C. J. Stevens were associated in a long, match-winning partnership.
J. M. Ruston made a spectacular and thrilling 95 for St. Albans, and others who passed 50 were M. Randle and R. T. Dowker (Lancaster Park), B. F. Hastings (West Christchurch-University) and K. Thomson (Sydenham). The only bowler to win particular success was J. Kiddy, who took seven wickets for Riccarton.
Scores:— Lancaster Park 263/8 dec. beat Riccarton 195 and 121/5 by 68 runs on the first innings. Old Boys 214/7 declared
beat West-University 210 and 183/5 by four runs on the first innings. St. Albans 326 beat Sydenham 247/9 dec. and 128/6 by 79 runs on the first innings.
