“Long Way To Go”

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BRISBANE, Dec. € The strike which has crippled Qantas, Australia’s overseas airline, has a “long way to go,” according to the president of the Air Pilots’ Federation, Captain R. T. Holt.

Captain Holt said yesterday that there was no immediate compromise in sight. The pilots are striking in support of claims for wage increases and safety measures. All Qantas services have stopped since the strike began nine days ago. Captain Holt said that many pilots had been forced to take other jobs, but there was no weakening in their resolve to see the dispute through.

Narrow Miss.—The British yachtsman, Francis Chichester, is expected to finish his solo voyage from England to Australia only two days outside his 100-day deadline. — Sydney, Dec. 4.
