CHRISTCHURCH READINGS Situation.—An anticyclone is centred north of the North Island and a westerly airstream covers New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds near the coast, but fresh north-westerlies predominating inland; scattered showers in the alps and foothills, but partly cloudy and mild elsewhere. Buller and Westland.—Moderate to fresh westerlies; cloudy and rather cool, with scattered showers. Marlborough and Nelson.—Fresh to strong westerly winds; some showers about Nelson ranges, but elsewhere partly cloudy and mild. Outlook. —All districts: cloudy, with some showers in the west; elsewhere fine. FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT
